Due to the very limited employee housing at Northstar, we have created this guide as a resource to help you make Tahoe your new home as quickly and as easily as possible.

ABOUT TAHOE

The Lake Tahoe Region is one of the most beautiful places on Earth. Located in the Sierras Nevada mountains and sitting at 6,225 ft, Lake Tahoe is the largest alpine lake in North America. Among all the communities around the lake the towns of TruckeeKings Beach, Tahoe CityIncline Village, and Carnelian Bay are closest to Northstar. Some of our team members also choose to live in Reno which is just shy of 40 miles away. For more info see what’s in the area.

When searching for your residence consider drive time to work, your vehicle capabilities in varying weather conditions (regular and snowy), and if you are on a bus route. It is possible to take a bus from Incline Village to Northstar that goes through Kings Beach. It is also possible to take a bus from Truckee to Northstar and from Tahoe City to Northstar. The main TART routes are a free service to all passengers.

HOW TO FIND ROOMMATES?

When looking for housing, one of the hardest parts can be finding other people you can share the space with. We highly recommend sharing a room or space with someone in your same department. This will most likely help you align your schedules and possibility allow you to carpool to work. You may also post an add on Craigslist, Roomies or Facebook: Northstar EmployeesNorthstar Housing

Housing specific apps or sites are an easy way to find housing in the area ZillowCraigslistTrulia. If you are willing, you can post an ad to find some other people to share a house with. When searching on Craigslist please be careful of scams and protect your personal information.  Sometimes it is possible to find available rentals by driving around the area to look for rental postings. They often will have their phone number on a sign for people to call.

FACEBOOK RESOURCES

Facebook can be a useful tool, and is probably one of the fastest ways to find a place to live in Tahoe. Many groups require membership approval to post or message on their boards.

Tahoe Truckee People

A grassroots community of primary residents in the North Tahoe-Truckee region, this Facebook page is where locals suggest looking for housing. This is not a public page.

North Lake Tahoe/Truckee Renters Network

Another Facebook page formed due to the surge of primary residents turning to social media to find housing. This is a place specifically designed to connect locals to open housing. This is not a public page.

Truckee Tahoe housing

This is a public group that helps network people together for rental housing in the area. It has many helpful posts about current events in the area as well.

When searching for a place, another option is to have a Realtor help you find something. A quick internet search will help you find someone willing able to help you. Some links such as Redfin and Coldwell Banker will help you find a Realtor or provide more reliable information about rentals. It may be fruitful to reach out to a couple as they will probably try to push their own clients’ rentals first. This route can also be helpful as they may be aware of others who are looking and might be able to connect you to them.
